Beef Casserole and Pie - Where Savory Comfort Meets Sneaky Nutrients!


Our Beef Casserole and Pie are culinary wonders, where the rich, hearty taste of beef cozies up with hidden vegetables, creating a delicious, nutrient-packed masterpiece. Ingredients


 

Steak Casserole

 

  • 1 or 2 Sirloin Steaks (180 grams)
  • 1 x Brown Onion (160 grams)
  • 1 x Bell Pepper (154 grams - any colour)
  • Leeks (200 grams)
  • Carrots (120 grams)
  • Courgettes (160 grams)
  • 4 x Beef Stock Cubes
  • Water (473 ml / 1 pint)
  • One Calorie Oil Spray (10 Sprays)

 

Mash Topping

 

  • Organic Potatoes (400 grams)
  • Butter Light (15 grams)
  • Semi Skimmed Milk (Approx.. 50 ml to cream the potatoes)
  • Beef Gravy Granules (20 grams)
  • Salt and Pepper to Taste

 

Other Things You Will Need


 

Steak Casserole

 

  • Slow cooker
  • Food Processor using the thin slicing blade
  • Microwave
  • Frying pan
  • Meat Tenderiser
  • Kitchen Ladle
  • Knife
  • Kitchen Tongs or a Fork
  • Chopping Board
  • Food Scales

 

Mash Topping

 

  • Saucepan
  • Potato Masher
  • Jug
  • Tablespoon
  • Large Pie or Casserole Dish
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Teaspoon
  • Oven Gloves

 

Before You Start Cooking


 

  • Defrost Steak for 12 hours in the fridge until thawed or use a microwave on defrost setting for 6 minutes
  • Wash hands for 20 seconds using soap and water
  • Place all ingredients and other things you will need on the kitchen worktop
  • Weigh or measure ingredients as required
  • Turn on the slow cooker and set to low
  • Preheat the Oven using Gas Mark 6 / 200 degrees C / 400 degrees F
  • Boil a Kettle of Water

 

Method


 

Steak Casserole

 

  • Peel the onion and the potatoes
  • Wash the pepper, carrots leeks, courgettes and the peeled potatoes
  • Cut the bell pepper in half and remove the stalk
  • Chop the peeled onion in half
  • Cut off the ends of the carrots, courgettes and leeks
  • Use the food processor to slice the carrots, followed by the Courgettes then the leeks, next the bell peppers and finally the onion
  • Place all of the vegetables from the food processor into the slow cooker
  • Put a frying pan on the hob using maximum heat
  • Spray the pan with 10 sprays of one calorie oil
  • Place the steak in the pan and fry for 5 minutes, add salt and pepper and give a gentle beat with a meat tenderiser and then fry for 5 minutes
  • Turn the steak and continue to fry for a further 5 minutes until golden brown on both sides
  • While the steak is frying gently remove any excess fat with a knife and fork as this is no longer required for the cooking process
  • Once the steak is ready, turn off the hob
  • Sprinkle the beef stock cubes over the vegetables in the slow cooker
  • Fill with water until the water level is just below the vegetables
  • Remove the steak from the frying pan and place on top of the vegetables using kitchen tongs or a fork and put the lid on the slow cooker
  • Cook for 6-8 hours or overnight
  • Once cooked give a good stir with a fork to break up the steak that will easily mix with the vegetables and the dark gravy
  • Set the slow cooker to warm so it is available throughout the day, or serve in a bowl using a ladle

 

People Who Dont Like Fruit and Vegetables Will Likely Remove the Carrots!

However, Use the Following Method to Hide the Vegetables If They Still Refuse to Eat It!

 

 

Mash Topping to Create the Pie!

 

  • Peel and wash the potatoes
  • Cut the potatoes randomly
  • Place the potatoes in a saucepan and add boiling water and a pinch of salt, boil until soft
  • Add the butter and milk to the potatoes in the pan and mash using a potato masher, stir and then mash again to ensure it is smooth
  • Move the beef casserole from the slow cooker to a mixing bowl using a kitchen ladle
  • Stir gravy granules in the leftover beef casserole using a mixing bowl and a teaspoon and leave to thicken
  • Move the thickened beef casserole from the mixing bowl using a kitchen ladle to a large pie or casserole dish
  • Dollop the mash on top of the beef casserole and spread out evenly using a fork
  • Use the fork to makes lines on top of the mash so it is more appealing when cooked
  • Place in the oven for 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown
  • Remove from the oven carefully using oven gloves and leave to cool for 10 minutes
  • Cut into 4
  • Serve

 

Notes


 

  • This is great when served on its own or with additional vegetables such as sprouts, cauliflower or broccoli for weight loss
  • Serve with chips or eat with buttered bread for weight gain
  • Help yourself throughout the day as low calorie that will encourage the none fruit and vegetable lovers to give it a try
  • Fantastic for people with a poor appetite where small amounts can be consumed throughout the day avoiding a large meal
