Chicken Pie (Food Recycling) - Savory Second Chances in Every Bite!

This pie is a symphony of sustainability, combining yesterday's leftovers into a mouthwatering masterpiece. Ingredients


 

  • 1/2 Portion Chicken Casserole  (leftovers from one pot chicken casserole)
  • Frozen Mash Potato (111 grams)
  • Chicken Gravy Granules (18 grams - optional)

 

Pastry


 

  • Self Raising Flour (180 grams)
  • Butter (31 Grams)
  • 1 x Large Egg
  • Water (Approx. 1 ml)
  • 1 Calorie Oil (10 squirts)
  • 1 x Pinch of Salt to taste

 

Other Things You Will Need


 

  • Food Processor using the cutting blade
  • Casserole or Pie Dish
  • Microwave
  • Ladle
  • Large Bowl
  • Mixing Bowl
  • Tablespoon
  • Pastry Roller
  • Knife
  • Food Scales

 

Before You Start Cooking


 

  • Wash hands for 20 seconds using soap and water
  • Place all ingredients and other things you will need on the kitchen worktop
  • Weigh or measure ingredients as required
  • Preheat the Oven using Gas Mark 6 / 200 degrees C / 400 degrees F

 

Method


 

  • Move the leftover chicken casserole using a ladle and put in a large bowl
  • Defrost mash potato using a microwave on maximum setting for 5 minutes
  • Mix the defrosted mash potato with the leftover chicken casserole using a tablespoon and stir well
  • Add the flour (keep a little back for rolling), egg, butter and salt in a food processor using the cutting blade and start mixing for 30 seconds
  • Slowly add water until the mixture forms a ball (very little water is required)
  • Split the pastry into two, one for the base and one for the topping, and roll out to the size of your pie or casserole dish using a pastry roller
  • Spray 5 squirts of 1 calorie oil in the pie or casserole dish
  • Place the first rolled pastry on the bottom of the pie or casserole dish, don't worry if there are gaps
  • Put the pie filling in the pie or casserole dish on top of the first pastry
  • Place the second rolled pastry on top of the pie filling
  • Roll over the pie or casserole dish with the pastry roller to seal the edge
  • Spray 5 squirts of 1 calorie oil over the pie to help to go golden brown
  • Place in oven and cook for 30 minutes or until golden brown
  • Remove from oven and cool for 10 minutes
  • Cut into 4 using a knife
  • Serve

 

Notes


 

  • If the pie filling looks watery after adding the mashed potato then add 18 grams of chicken gravy granules to thicken the filling, this will add around 30 calories to the overall dish
  • This dish is good for weight loss if ate on its own, served with vegetables or instant gravy
  • This dish is good for weight gain when served with chips,
  • Any type of egg can be used including barn and free range eggs, but make sure that they are fresh
