80’s Style Black Peas - A Nostalgic Throwback to Flavourful Memories!

Relive the taste of yesteryears with our 80’s Style Black Peas. This iconic dish is a flavourful time machine, taking you back to the delicious memories of the 1980’s. Cooked to perfection and seasoned just right, it's a warm, comforting bowl of nostalgia that'll transport you to a simpler, more flavourful era.

 

Ingredients


 

  • Black (Pigeon) Dried Peas (400 grams)
  • 4 x Beef Cubes
  • Water (1600 ml)
  • Salt to tenderise the peas (1 teaspoon)
  • Salt and Malt Vinegar to taste

 

Other Things You Will Need


 

  • Slow Cooker
  • Jug
  • Colander
  • Kitchen Ladle
  • Teaspoon
  • Food Scales

 

Before You Start Cooking


 

  • Wash hands for 20 seconds using soap and water
  • Place all ingredients and other things you will need on the kitchen worktop
  • Weigh or measure ingredients as required
  • Turn slow cooker on and set to low heat
  • Boil a kettle of water

 

Method


 

  • When measuring the black peas use a glass jug and take a note of the level reading
  • Wash the dried peas using a colander under the cold water tap
  • Put the washed black peas in the slow cooker
  • Add boiling water as 4 x the same level of black peas using same jug (approx. 1600 ml of water per 400 grams of peas)
  • Give a good stir!
  • Cover and leave for 8 hours or overnight
  • After 8 hours sprinkle in 4 x beef cubes to the black peas in the slow cooker, stir well and leave for a further 3 hours
  • Set slow cooker to warm heat
  • Give a final Stir and help yourself when ready do not forget to add salt and malt vinegar to taste!!!

 

Notes


 

  • When losing weight this is a great snack, but only have one serving per day
  • Great for people wanting to gain weight by leaving the slow cooker set to warm and letting people help themselves throughout the day
  • Serve in a dessert bowl using a kitchen ladle or even better a polystyrene cup for that true 80's feel
  • This method of cooking also works with dried green peas
