Ingredients
Standard Gravy
- 2 x Beef Stock Cubes
- 1 x Brown Onion (100 grams)
- Celery (100 grams)
- Carrot (100 grams)
- Water (568 ml or 1 pint)
- Salt and Pepper to taste
For Extra Special Version Add
- Tomato Purée (16 grams)
- Oregano Spice (1/2 to a cap full depending on taste)
Other Things You Will Need
- Frying Pan
- Food Processor using thin slicing blade
- Knife
- Cutting Board
- Kitchen Ladle
- Jug
- Kettle
- Storage Jar (optional)
- Food Scales
Before You Start Cooking
- Wash hands for 20 seconds using soap and water
- Place all ingredients and other things you will need on the kitchen worktop
- Weigh or measure ingredients as required
- Sterilise the storage jar
- Boil a kettle of water
Method
- Wash the celery and carrots
- Use the food processor to slice the celery and carrots using the thin slicing blade
- Peel the onion and randomly cut
- Place a frying pan on the hob using medium heat
- Add the onions, celery and carrots to the frying pan
- Slowly fry for 5 minutes without oil or butter
- After 5 minutes add the water and sprinkle in the stock cubes
- Increase the heat to maximum, stir, place a lid on top of the pan (if you have one) and cook for 10 minutes
- Give a good stir, turn the heat off and then allow to cool for 2-3 minutes
- Put contents of the frying pan into a liquidiser or blender using a ladle and blitz for 1 minute
- Return contents of the liquidiser or blender back to the frying pan, give a stir, set the hob to medium heat and simmer the gravy for 5 minutes
- Sample the gravy and add a pinch of salt and pepper to improve the taste if required
- Simmer for a further 5 minutes or until you reach the thickness of gravy that you prefer
- If you like an extra special gravy then add the tomato purée and oregano, give a really good stir and keep simmering for a further 1 minute
- Remove the gravy from the pan and pour in a gravy boat if using immediately or put into a storage jar and store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks
- Serve
